Reading the website

The web server processes requests to deliver pages and images. Access and error logs can include the requesting IP address, time, requested URL, browser information and response status. These records support operation and troubleshooting. We do not publish visitor logs.

Cookies

The age acknowledgement sets a first-party cookie named vb_age_ok for up to 30 days so the acknowledgement need not be repeated on every page. It records the acknowledgement, not proof of age. You can remove it in your browser settings. WordPress uses authentication and preference cookies for authorised administrators and a test cookie on its login page. Forms and email

Visitors can subscribe to Daily Brief emails by entering an email address, choosing interests and selecting “Subscribe to Daily Brief”. New subscriptions become active immediately, without an email confirmation click. We store the address, interests, sign-up and activation dates, subscription status and a random token for unsubscribing in this website’s WordPress database. A welcome email is sent from support@vapebrief.com through Tencent Enterprise Mail and includes an unsubscribe link. An address that previously unsubscribed must use an emailed rejoin link before it becomes active again. Daily Brief editions are scheduled for 08:00 U.S. Eastern time each day, including daylight saving changes. Editions link to published articles from the previous Eastern day and use the topics you selected. We record the edition date, the subscriber record and whether the email service accepted each send to prevent duplicates and troubleshoot delivery. If someone entered your address without your permission, use the unsubscribe link in the welcome email or contact support@vapebrief.com. To limit abuse, the form temporarily counts requests from the same IP address. Online contact and tip forms remain disabled. Following a mailto link opens your own email application; any message you choose to send is handled by the mail services involved.

Third parties

Current article pages host their images on this website, use system fonts and do not include third-party advertising or visitor analytics scripts. Links to sources, image licences and other websites take you to services with their own privacy practices. The hosting system processes requests and operational logs to run the website.
